Wing Lung Bank, firmly rooted in Hong Kong for over 70 years, has been maintaining extremely close business ties with the Pearl River Delta region. The demand for financial services is continuously growing given the swift economic take-off in China . As part of its long-term strategies to integrate into the fast economic development in China, the Bank will gradually establish branches and representative offices on the Mainland to serve local customers.
In 1994, the Bank obtained approval from The People's Bank of China to set up the first representative office in Guangzhou. Being the Group's network, Guangzhou Representative Office is mainly responsible for providing advisory services and gathering market information. The second representative office, located at Pudong New Area of Shanghai, was founded in 1999 to well-prepare the Bank for the galloping economic growth in future.
Wing Lung Bank is the first Hong Kong-based bank approved by the China Banking Regulatory Commission to set up a branch in China under the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA). Serving customers relocated to the Mainland, foreign invested enterprises and local enterprises, the branch in Shenzhen mainly provides foreign currency deposits, loans, bills and remittances services, and helps strengthen cooperation with other banks in China.
Following the opening of Shenzhen Branch in 2004, Shenzhen Nanshan Sub-branch commenced operation in 2005 and complements business expansion of Shenzhen Branch.
In view of the gradual economic integration of Hong Kong and China, the Bank will consider setting up branches in other cities as to extend its diverse and quality service to the mainland market and to contribute to the Mainland's economic progress and sustainable prosperity.
